Touching Heaven

I am unashamedly an Elvis Presley fan, and my wife and I have had the privilege of twice visiting his home in Memphis.

Although Elvis is known as the ‘King of Rock and Roll’, his best music is his gospel music.

In fact, with all his awards and accolades, he only won three Grammy Awards – all for his gospel albums.

Among his many beautiful gospel songs including ‘If That Isn’t Love’ and ‘Amazing Grace’, for me, one of the most beautiful songs that he ever sang is a song called ‘He Touched Me’.

In October last year, my wife and I were at a conference at a huge church of over 39,000 members in Texas. Each session began with incredible praise and worship to the L-rd.

During one of the praise and worship sessions a song was sung called “The Whole earth”.

During this song, praise and worship leaders from a number of countries around the world – including Israel, Japan, China, Korea, Taiwan, Brazil, Mexico and the US – each sang a particular portion of the song.

At that time all the people in the auditorium, which was packed, held their hands up to Almighty G-d and worshipped Him.

I remember thinking: “This is what Heaven is going to be like”.

You see, we had just touched a bit of Heaven.

I wept as I saw thousands of people from all tongues, nations and tribes lifting their hands and worshipping the ONLY true G-d; the G-d of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Thinking about this now reminds me of when I was following Orthodox Judaism.

You see, the bible tells us in Deuteronomy 34:10: “But since then there has not arisen in Israel a prophet like Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face”.

I remember how I longed to know Almighty G-d ‘face to face’.

At that time, although I was religiously following Orthodox Judaism, I never had this personal relationship with the L-rd that Moses had – although I desired it with all my heart…until I came to salvation through Yeshua!

The moment I invited Yeshua into my life as my Saviour, He touched me, and I knew G-d ‘face to face’; and, as a line in the song ‘He Touched Me’ goes, “oh, the wonderful joy that flooded my soul”.

And ever since that glorious day in April of 1994, when Yeshua touched my life, I have had the joy of a personal, intimate relationship with Him and with my Heavenly Father.

Following Orthodox Judaism, I had a wonderful relationship with the ‘Torah’, the Teachings. Now, I have a wonderful relationship with the One who wrote the ‘Torah’ – Almighty G-d.

And not only did G-d touch me; not only do I have a personal intimate relationship with Him; these days, I am now touching Heaven.

How about you? Do you have a desire for G-d to touch you? Do you desire to have a personal, intimate relationship with Him?

Invite Yeshua into your life as your Saviour, and when He touches you, your life will never be the same again; and you, too, will touch Heaven.
