Sing unto the L-rd and touch heaven
My beautiful and precious wife of blessed memory and I are unashamedly Elvis Presley fans, and we had the privilege of twice visiting his home in Memphis.
Although Elvis is known as the ‘King of Rock and Roll’, his best music is his gospel music. In fact, with all his awards and accolades, he only won three Grammy Awards – all for his gospel albums.
Among his many beautiful gospel songs which include ‘If That Isn’t Love’, ‘Amazing Grace’ and ‘How Great Thou Art’, for me, one of the most beautiful songs that he ever sang is a song called ‘He Touched Me’.
Over the years, my wife and I have had the privilege of attending an amazing conference for Pastors, Leaders and Worship Leaders at Gateway Church in Texas, a huge church of around 40,000 members. Before each session, they begin with incredible praise and worship to the L-rd.
Often during the praise and worship sessions a song is sung called “The Whole earth”.
During this song, praise and worship leaders from a number of countries around the world – including Israel, Africa, Japan, China, Korea, Taiwan, Brazil, Mexico and the US – each sing a particular portion of this song in their home language.
During this worship song and others, the people in the packed auditorium hold their hands up to Almighty G-d and worship Him.
Every time we experience this, I think: “This is what Heaven is going to be like”.
My wife and I always weep as we see thousands of people from all tongues, nations and tribes lifting their hands and worshipping the ONLY true G-d; the G-d of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the Father, Son, Holy Spirit.
You see at these moments when the ‘Ruach Hakodesh’ (Holy Spirit) touches us, we touch a bit of Heaven.
Psalm 95:1-6 declares: “Oh come, let us sing to the Lord! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation. 2 Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; Let us shout joyfully to Him with Psalms. 3 For the Lord is the great God, And the great King above all gods. 4 In His hand are the deep places of the earth; The heights of the hills are His also. 5 The sea is His, for He made it; And His hands formed the dry land. 6 Oh come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker. 7 For He is our God, And we are the people of His pasture, And the sheep of His hand.”
It is nearly two years since Covid-19 with all the hysteria, madness and chaos that came with it came to the world.
And during this time, exactly according to the prophetic word of G-d, the world began erupting in the madness of lawlessness, demonstrations, violence and sadly, death.
Yet for most of you reading this you are still standing, still able to carry on, and still able to enjoy life and G-d's provision. Why? Because of the faithfulness of the faithful G-d of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
And this is why we should sing to the L-rd each and every day. We should sing to the L-rd and shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation.
We should come before His presence with thanksgiving and shout joyfully to Him with Psalms.
Why? Because the L-rd is the only true and great G-d; and the great King above all gods.
In His hand are the deep places of the earth; the heights of the hills are His; the sea is His, for He made it; and His hands formed the dry land.
We should all worship and bow down, and kneel before the Lord our Maker. For the G-d of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is our God, and we are all the people of His pasture, and the sheep of His hand.
Psalm 100:5 tells us: “For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations.”
So if you think that you have nothing to sing to the L-rd for, here are three very good reasons: “For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations.”
Proclaim the L-rd’s glory and wonders among the nations. Praise Him for He is great and greatly to be praised.
Thinking about this now reminds me of when I was following Orthodox Judaism.
You see, the bible tells us in Deuteronomy 34:10: “But since then there has not arisen in Israel a prophet like Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face”.
I remember how I longed to know Almighty G-d ‘face to face’.
At that time, although I was religiously following Orthodox Judaism, I never had this personal relationship with the L-rd that Moses had – although I desired it with all my heart…until my wife and I came to salvation through Yeshua!
The moment we invited Yeshua into our lives as our Saviour, He touched us, and we knew G-d ‘face to face’; and, as a line in the song ‘He Touched Me’ goes, “oh, the wonderful joy that flooded our souls”.
And ever since that glorious day when Yeshua touched our lives, we have had the joy of a personal, intimate relationship with Him and with our Heavenly Father.
Following Orthodox Judaism, I had a wonderful relationship with the ‘Torah’, the Teachings. Now, I have a wonderful relationship with the One who wrote the ‘Torah’ – Almighty G-d.
And not only did G-d touch my wife and I; not only do we have a personal intimate relationship with Him; but every single day we touch Heaven
Now, my precious, beautiful and magnificent wife has gone ahead of me and is in Heaven in the presence of Almighty G-d, the Father, Son, Holy Spirit.
And I am ready and cannot wait to follow my wife into Heaven so that I, too, can be in the presence of ‘Adonai Elohim’ Almighty G-d.
How about you? Do you have a desire for G-d to touch you? Do you desire to have a personal, intimate relationship with Him?
Invite Yeshua into your life as your Saviour, and when He touches you, your life will never be the same again; and you, too, will touch Heaven.
But most of all, proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day; shout it out from the rooftops; proclaim it to the nations; proclaim it to your family, friends, colleagues and to all in your sphere of influence; proclaim it to Jewish people.
Finally, proclaim not only the good news of His salvation, but proclaim the One through whom salvation comes...the Jewish ‘Moshiach’ (Messiah), His name is Yeshua.
Then sing unto the L-rd every day, and touch heaven.
