THE BATTLE IS THE L-RD’S

1 Samuel 17:5-7: “He (Goliath) had a bronze helmet on his head, and he was armed with a coat of mail, and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of bronze. And he had bronze armour on his legs and a bronze javelin between his shoulders. Now the staff of his spear was like a weaver's beam, and his iron spearhead weighed six hundred shekels; and a shield-bearer went before him.”

From the above scripture, we see that Goliath, who was preparing to face David in battle, was in full battle array with a helmet of bronze on his head, a coat of mail that weighed five thousand shekels of bronze and bronze armour on his legs.

Goliath’s weapons consisted of a sword, a bronze javelin, a spear whose staff was like a weaver’s beam, and a shield.

David’s armour consisted of…well, nothing; and all David had as weapons was a slingshot and five smooth stones.

In reality, it was not really a contest. However, David had one weapon that Goliath did not have - Almighty G-d.

1 Samuel 17:41-47 tells us that “the Philistine came, and began drawing near to David, and the man who bore the shield went before him. 42 And when the Philistine looked about and saw David, he disdained him; for he was only a youth, ruddy and good-looking. 43 So the Philistine said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. 44 And the Philistine said to David, “Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field!” 45 Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 This day the LORD will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you. And this day I will give the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. 47 Then all this assembly shall know that the LORD does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the LORD'S, and He will give you into our hands.””

You see, David had no doubt about the outcome of the battle.

1 Samuel 17:49-51 tells us that David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone and slung it and struck Goliath in his forehead so that the stone sank into his forehead, and the Philistine fell on his face to the earth. David then ran and stood over the Philistine, took his sword and drew it out of its sheath killed him, and cut off his head with it.

When the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled.

David understood that the battle was the Lord’s and that the L-rd would fight the battle for him. He knew without doubt that he would slay Goliath, and that Israel would prevail…because the battle was the L-rd’s and David left it to Him.

And still today, the L-rd is fighting Israel’s battles.

Every time you stand in Israel, one of the most technologically advanced countries on the planet, you are standing in a country which is a miracle, because by all rights, Israel should not even exist.

The miracle of Israel is bigger than the parting of the Red Sea, and it’s bigger than David slaying Goliath.

So why does Israel always prevail against its enemies? The L-rd fights their battles for them, just as he did for David.

If you trust in Almighty G-d and allow Him to fight your battles for you, you will never need to doubt the outcome. Just give whatever battle you are facing to the L-rd and let Him fight the battle for you. You will always be victorious, and the L-rd doesn’t need your help, just trust Him and believe.

Exodus 14:13-14 declares: “And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. 14 The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.””

So whatever battles you face, trust the G-d of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob to fight the battle for you.

The outcome is a foregone conclusion……If the L-rd fights your battles, you will always be victorious.

I end with this: Stand still, hold your peace, and let the L-rd fight your battles.
