THE UNCHANGEABLE G-D OF ETERNITY

Exodus 18:1 begins by describing the arrival of Moses’ father-in-law, Yitro (Jethro), in the Israelite camp just after Almighty G-d had freed them from slavery in Egypt to freedom.

Yitro also brought with him Moses’ wife, Zipporah, and Moses’ two sons, Gershom, which means ‘A Stranger There’ and Eliezer which means “The G-d of my father was my help’.

Eliezer’s name reveals to us another amazing name of Almighty G-d which we first see in Exodus 3:5-6: “Then He said, “Do not draw near this place. Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground.” 6 Moreover He said, “I am the God of your father--the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.””

“I am the God of your Father” in the Hebrew is “Anochi Elohei Avicha”. We see that the Hebrew word used here for ‘I Am’ is ‘Anochi’. However the more popular words used for ‘I am’ is ‘Ani’ or ‘Eh’yeh’. So what is Almighty G-d actually saying?

By using the word ‘Anochi’, the word ‘father’ is here used collectively and becomes ‘fathers’ – referring to the three Hebrew Patriarchs. However, G-d is referring to Himself by yet another name describing His character.

‘Anochi’ also means ‘vertical’ and ‘upright’, and ‘Anochi’ used here describes G-d’s moral character which is found in His names.

When deconstructed and reconstructed, the full meaning ‘Anochi’ becomes clear. ‘Anochi’ means Perfectly Honest, Honourable, Moral, Ethical, Righteous and High-minded.

I want to focus on the word ‘High-Minded” which Almighty G-d reinforces in Isaiah 55:8-12: ““For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the LORD. 9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts. 10 For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, And do not return there, But water the earth, And make it bring forth and bud, That it may give seed to the sower And bread to the eater, 11 So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it. 12 “For you shall go out with joy, And be led out with peace; The mountains and the hills Shall break forth into singing before you, And all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.””

“Anochi Elohei Avicha” deconstructed and reconstructed describe G-d as ‘The unchangeable and upright G-d of Eternity who always fulfils His promises and always keeps His covenant’.

However it also describes G-d as Perfectly Righteous and High-minded. In light of this, Exodus 3:5-6 fully translated from the Hebrew should read: “Then He said, “Do not draw near this place. Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground.” 6 Moreover He said, “I am the unchangeable and upright G-d of Eternity who is perfectly righteous and high-minded and whose ways are higher than your ways, and whose thoughts higher than your thoughts who is the God of your fathers--the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob who always fulfils His promises and always keeps His covenant.””

So the name Anochi Elohei Avicha denotes Almighty G-d as our unchangeable and upright G-d of Eternity who is perfectly righteous and high-minded; whose ways are higher than our ways; whose thoughts higher than our thoughts; who always accomplishes what He pleases and who fulfils His promises and always keeps His covenant.

What a wonderful awesome, majestic and faithful G-d we serve.

So how is your relationship with Almighty G-d, ‘Adonai Elohim’, the G-d of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the Father, Son, Holy Spirit?

G-d is such a wonderful Father that He gave His only begotten Son, Yeshua, to pay the price for mankind’s sin and to grant mankind eternal life through His death and resurrection – and this is for both Jews and Gentiles.

So I have two questions:

1. Have you come to faith in Yeshua by accepting Him as your ‘Moshiach’, your Saviour?

2. If you have come to faith in Yeshua by accepting Him as your Saviour, are you telling your family, friends, acquaintances and Jewish people you know the good news of salvation?

If you haven’t received Yeshua as your Saviour, please accept Yeshua as your L-rd and Saviour by praying the following prayer of salvation:

Thank you Yeshua for Your love for me.

Thank you for giving up Your life on the cross for me and for taking my sins upon Yourself.

I confess that I have sinned.

I repent of my sins and I turn from everything I know to be wrong.

I invite You to come into my life as my Messiah, my Saviour.

By Your grace I will serve You all the remaining years of my life.

Now tell your family, friends, acquaintances and Jewish people you know about the good news of salvation so that they, too, can have the revelation of our unchangeable and upright G-d.
